In 1955, Gangadharan Ramalingam first set foot in Chennai to make a life for himself. He came to the city with many hopes and some dream. Unlike in the movies, his dreams were not glamorous. This is real life and his dreams were realistic. He worked to make him aspirations come true and to build a comfortable life for himself and his family. Time moved on, as it often does, and three years passed in the blink of an eye.

Then in 1958, a grocery store opened up and became a part of the West Mambalam area of Chennai. With a mere 250 rupees as investment, Gangadharan Ramalingam set the foundation for the rest of his life. Raja Provision Stores was open for business.

It took very many days and a lot of hard work for Gangadharan Ramalingam to establish himself as a part of the community. Years passed and then decades. Raja Provision Stores became one with the neighbourhood, an essential part of the everyday lives of West Mambalam residents. They knew that they could rely on Raja Provision Stores to be open every day and provide them with all they need for their everyday chores. It would really not have been the same without Raja Provision Stores. If you asked any resident, they would tell you the how much satisfied they were from the store.

It has been sixty-three years since the store first opened itself to costumers; and the store is not the same as it was back then. All those years ago, the store was a newly opened establishment that some people had started taking notice of. Since then, the tireless efforts of Gangadharan Ramalingam have paid off. Raja Provision Stores has evolved into a supermarket, Raja Shop Inn. On 30th April, 2006, Gangadharan Ramalingam declared that the years have been generous and that he has every intention of keeping up with the competition. Raja Shop Inn will continue to provide its services to even bigger consumer base.
